==Early life and education==
Abeywickrama is a graduate of University of Colombo, in Sri Lanka, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree. He acquired an MBA from the Kogod College of Business, The American University, Washington DC, where he served as a graduate fellow of the Marketing Department. He is also a chartered marketer of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
